PR122

The oil color Magenta based on the pigment PR122 (Quinacridone Magenta) is a synthetic organic artist's color known for its extremely intense, bright pink-violet hue and excellent lightfastness. The color functions as an ideal primary color (Cymatic Magenta) in the modern color wheel.

• Intense pink-violet : PR122 delivers a very bright and deep pink that has a distinct cool, bluish undertone.
• Primary color : It is often used as the "perfect" primary magenta for color mixing, as it does not lean too much towards either yellow or pure blue.
• High transparency : Oil paint is naturally very transparent (see-through). This makes it excellent for glazing, where thin, transparent layers are applied on top of other colors to create depth.
• Excellent lightfastness : Quinacridone pigments typically score at the top of the lightfastness scale. The color will virtually not fade over time when exposed to daylight.
• High tinting strength : Although the color is transparent, it has a very high tinting strength. A small amount of Magenta on the brush will quickly dominate the colors it is mixed with.
• Perfect purple shades : When you mix PR122 with ultramarine blue or phthalo blue, you get extremely pure, vibrant and luminous purple and violet shades.
• Replacement for historical colors : Mixed with a little iron oxide (oxide red), you can imitate the classic, but less lightfast Rose Madder (Alizarin Crimson).
• Neutral shadows : If you mix it with its complementary color (a phthalo green or similar green shade), you can create rich, deep, and almost black shadow colors.
