  • Ivory Black PBk9 is the most popular and widely used deep black on the artist's palette. It is known for its velvety character and warm, brownish undertone. The pigment has historical roots dating back to antiquity and the Old Masters, where it was originally produced by charring ivory scraps. Today, PBk9 is produced by controlled charring of animal bones, which is why the color is often called bone black today.

    • Perfect for lasering : It is indispensable for building deep, atmospheric shadows in thin layers without blocking out the light.
    • Beautiful gray tones : When you mix ivory black with titanium white, you get soft, warm, and natural gray shades that are perfect for portrait and figure painting (e.g. for the shadows of skin).
    • Complementary Mixtures : Combined with yellow ochre (like the PY43 found in your Payne's Gray) you can create stunning, muted olive green hues.

    This pigment is 97% natural.
