Natural Umbra (Imitation) is a modern and extremely stable interpretation of the classic, earthy brown artist's color. While traditional natural umber is extracted directly from the earth and can vary in quality, this version is precision blended from pure iron oxide pigments. The result is a deep, rich and reliable raw umber with a distinctive olive green undertone.

• PY42 (Synthetic Yellow Iron Oxide): Gives the color its warm, brightened base tone.
• PR101 (Synthetic Red Iron Oxide): Adds body and a muted, earthy blush.
• PBk11 (Synthetic Black Iron Oxide / Mars Black): Creates depth, darkness and the classic, muted shadow effect.
• Shadows and glazes: Thinned in thin layers (glazes), the color reveals its complex, greenish undertone. It is ideal for deep shadows that do not appear muddy or flat.
• Underpainting: The controlled drying time and high stability make it perfect for underpainting (imprimatura) and building up light and shadow (chiaroscuro).
• Mixtures: Mixed with white, it creates beautiful, neutral and stony gray-brown shades. It tones down intense colors without making them dirty.
